WASHINGTON, DC – The Steering Committee of the Gay, Lesbian and Allies Senate Staff (GLASS) Caucus released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s ruling in Windsor v. United States:
“As an organization created to promote the welfare and dignity of LGBT employees in the U.S. Senate, the GLASS Caucus joins in the chorus of our community to celebrate the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act. While we do not take specific policy positions, we believe that full equality for the LGBT community should supersede politics.
“Today’s decision by the Supreme Court will allow legally married LGBT Senate staff to receive the same health, retirement, and survivor benefits offered to their heterosexual colleagues. We are pleased that LGBT Senate staff will at last be afforded these important rights and look forward to the day when LGBT Senate employees are treated fully equal under the law.”
