Creating the Old Girls Club: Breaking Barriers and Succeeding in Politics
Tuesday, April 17th
6:30 PM
Sewall-Belmont House & Museum

“When will you run for office?” How many people have asked you that question? And have you actually considered it? In 2010, the number of women elected to Congress did not increase for the first time in history. Women face barriers of all kinds in the political playing field. Whether it’s due to external barriers such as the media, or feeling unqualified… women are losing the game. But there are opportunities for success! It’s time to believe it and start opening the doors to Congress. Join Sewall-Belmont and the Women’s Congressional Staff Association for an amazing discussion that will provide strategies and tips to overcoming barriers and achieving success in politics.

Panelists
Dr. Jennifer Lawless, Director of the Women & Politics Institute and Associate Professor, American University
Jessica Grounds, Executive Director, Running Start
Sam Bennett, Women’s Campaign Fund
Moderated by Karen Tumulty, National Political Correspondent, Washington Post
Program will begin at 6:30pm, refreshments and networking to follow.

The Sewall-Belmont House & Museum is located on Capitol Hill at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 2nd Street, NE, next to the Hart Senate Office Building.
